THE GOND LEGEND

The Gond folktale speaks of a blue crow, sent to find the Earth. On its way, the crow lands on the back of a great crab. On a quest together, they both reach the bottom of the ocean to force the Gichna Raja (earthworm) to relinquish the Lord’s divine creation. For eight days and nine nights, the Earth is churned. This tale serves as the poetic explanation of the Gondi’s for our planet Earth‘s origin.

The sacred Mahua pod form and detailed Gond patterns of dots and lines, weave through the design, emphasising the rich tapestry of Gond folklore. This contemporary jewellery reimagines an ancient tale, elegantly captured in every detail, connecting the wearer to a timeless narrative of the earth's origin. 

All pieces are handcrafted in India and hand painted by artists in our studio in Mumbai, under small batch production.
